PDS Charity School - Perspective Development Skills Charitable Organization

Better Future Academy is a flagship PDS Zanzibar initiative operating as a charity nursery and primary school inside Jendele’s Sustainable Village. Dedicated to uplifting local orphans and vulnerable children aged 3 to 8, the academy currently provides quality early education to 59 students across Kindergarten 1 (21), Kindergarten 2 (22), and Standard 1 (16). Our mission is to expand full educational sponsorships, ensuring every child receives the learning, support, and care needed to build a brighter tomorrow.

Activities

Teaching: Assist local teachers in delivering some subjects like numeric (numbers), science, languages (English and Arabic), creative activities and sports.
School Program Improvement: Help the school staff in improving the curriculum, the teaching methods, the educational activities to meet the students’ developmental goals.
Indoor and outdoor activities: Participate in the organization of games, events such as “PDS Got Talent”, workshops (gardening, nutrition, environment…).

Taking care of the children: Assist the local teachers to prepare the meals, to supervize the children during the break and the class…
Building the school: Help with the construction of the school. You can also plan with the PDS Team about establishing Primary and Secondary Schools.
Help other schools: PDS partners with other schools (Primary School in Stonetown, Kibele School, Primary School in Mahonda…). The volunteers can assist the teachers in these different partner schools.

Official languages of the program are English and Swahili. You do not need to be fluent.

People from 18 years old to 60 years old.

Note: Younger Participants can be accepted if they are accompanied by their parents or an authorized guardian(s).

Families, groups, seniors, couples and participants with disabilities are encouraged to join the program.
However, they should contact us in advance in order to prepare an appropriate environment that fit their special needs.

Monday-Friday | 5 hours/day.

The program is organized in a way that provides an opportunity for participants to use their free time by enjoying what the region offers in terms of cultural and natural attractions. Participants will have the opportunity to explore Zanzibar historical, natural and cultural sites. It includes museums, local markets, beaches, forests and so on…

1 week minimum and 1 year maximum.
Participants are expected to arrive on time and stay up to the end of their volunteering mission.

Our volunteering participation fees are designed to cover the essential costs of hosting volunteers during their mission and supporting our community projects.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

Your participation fee includes:

Humanitarian and Charity Activities – Participation in PDS community, humanitarian, and charity activities.
Visa Support – Support with the appropriate visa process, including an e-visa or student/volunteer visa where applicable.
Airport/Seaport Transfers – Pick-up and drop-off upon arrival and departure.
Accommodation – Accommodation throughout your volunteering mission, including water and electricity.
Three Meals Daily – Breakfast, lunch, and dinner during your stay.
Project Contribution – A contribution toward the implementation and sustainability of PDS community projects.
